“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…”

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…”

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life,  and have it to                 the full.”

Jesus, John 10.10 (NIV)

“To live will be an awfully big adventure,”

Peter Pan, from the Movie, Hook, 1991

A few days ago, I watched the movie, Hook, starring the late Robin Williams. It was a favorite of Kyle’s when he was a lot younger. It is always a favorite. The movie ends with Peter, surrounded by his family and Wendy, saying, “To live will be an awfully big adventure.”

As we welcome the new beginning of 2017, we will experience many adventures. Many will be pleasant and memorable. Others will be challenging and demanding. Despite what is presented to us in 2017, we must set our eyes on a higher plane and victoriously live for Christ.

We know the enemy’s intent. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” We can allow experiences and people to participate in the enemy’s negative goals and objectives. We can allow those who do not wish us well to manipulate our joy and turn it into sadness and gloominess. Or, we can stand as victors and triumphantly walk in the life Christ has promised to us.

Each of us must determine how we will walk in 2017. We can walk by faith or we can walk by sight. By sight, we see tall mountains and deep valleys. By sight, we see obstacles and hardships. By sight, we see all the things that say we cannot make it or we will never be successful.

We should refuse to adhere to what we merely see by sight and trust what we know by faith. By faith, Jesus says that all things are possible if we believe. By faith, the Old Testament sage, Solomon, said to trust the Lord with all our heart and lean not to our own understanding (Proverbs 3.5). By faith, Jesus says, “Ask and it shall be given, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you (Matthew 7.7).”

I hope it will be your determination to heed not to the detractors in your life. The enemy is a detractor. The enemy’s goal is to win those who will adhere to his concept of life and living. You should be encouraged to heed the voice and practices of Jesus Christ.

The more we study His Word, the more we understand how to live successful lives. The more we pray, the more empowered we become to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6.11). The more we worship the Lord, the more we soar to higher heights as we humble ourselves in the Lord’s grace. 2017 will be a big adventure. We will be fine.  Amen
